| An exciting new project.
Date: 20-10-2005
Representatives of Kimpton Primary School, Eco-watch
and Gatehouse met at Kimpton school on Wednesday, October 19th to
discuss a joint project.
The school has an ancient woodland, Boundary Wood,
within its premises, and has made use of this unique facility already
by adding bird boxes to the site. Having seen the exciting use of
web-cam technology in other schools, the head teacher, Jackie Glover,
invited Eco-watch and Gatehouse to the school to see how this project
could be developed further. Jackie would like to share this eco-centre
by offering Kimpton Primary School as an educational resource within
the Andover area.
Gatehouse and Eco-watch have already agreed to
form a partnership to promote the
educational benefits of web-cam technology. Eco-watch currently
monitor the wildlife in Heligan Gardens using this exciting technology
and Kimpton intend to reproduce this process in their own grounds.
At the meeting, it was agreed that Eco-watch will
provide a wide-ranging set of costed scenarios and that Jackie and
Christine, the school’s ICT coordinator, will discuss with
parents and local benefactors how much can be afforded in the initial
stages. Gatehouse will provide educational support throughout and
the project will be monitored on the web sites of all three contributors.
It is hoped that the cabling and basic technology
will be in place in time for the Spring term. Further details of
how the project develops will be released over the coming months
It is agreed that the Gatehouse web site will contain a link to
one of the web-cams in this ancient woodland as soon as possible.
