I cut my educational 'teeth' in the
London Boroughs of Hillingdon, Brent and Ealing in the 1970s
and 1980s, working in infant and first schools, all with nurseries,
moving out to my headship of a large, nursery and infant school
in Basingstoke, Hampshire, 1990.

After
spending six years teaching mainly mathematics in Secondary
Schools, a period in which technology began to make an impact
with the introduction of the Commodore PET (Personal Electronic
Transactor), I changed my career focus to working with IT
in education.
During the subsequent twenty four years huge developments
in technology have occurred. My experience in this time encompasses
involvement both locally and nationally in one of the earliest
information and communication systems, to managing a successful
and respected team (HMTC Technical Services) delivering effective
user friendly network solutions and support to Primary schools.
I continue to work to effect solutions that are both understandable
and practical for the classroom situation.
Working within Gatehouse Partnership Ltd,
I have devised and installed highly successful ICT
networked solutions in many Hampshire Primary schools,
and that work is on going. |

I
started to work with Anthony, Tony and Geoff at Hampshire
Microtechnology in 1989, after a 16 year child rearing break.
Little did I know what I had let myself in for – working
closely with Anthony and Tony as an administrator was, to
say the least, very challenging! A laugh a minute, but we
were also very determined in supporting Hampshire schools
in IT. When I retired in July 2006 Anthony invited me to join
Gatehouse Partnership part-time to continue the admin support
for SLICT.
Whilst the SLICT training has now finished I am happy to
continue my admin support for Gale, Anthony and Tony covering
courses, conferences and whatever else might arise. Although
working from home I have a sense of ‘belonging to’
which I think is missed when you retire.
I enjoy gardening (only to see it looking good when I have
the rare moment of being able to sit in it!), reading, playing
bridge and, at the moment, having water colour painting lessons.
I wondered when I put in for retirement whether I would be
able to fill my days – silly me! |

Having
gained City and Guilds qualifications in Consumer Electronics
Servicing, I spent my early working years as a Radio and Television
Engineer in West London. I married
and moved to Hampshire in 1967 and started work for Electronic
Rentals Group where, as well as Television and Video repairs,
I was seconded to work with the early stages of BT’s
Prestel and the installation and commissioning of Videotext
systems at commercial premises. I was a member of a specialist
team of technicians employed to implement and maintain a network
of ICL 49 computers in all the rental outlets of the company.
I made the move to Hampshire County Council
in 1991, at a time when the Hampshire Micro Technology Centre
was expanding computing in Primary Schools. From that date,
I have the seen the vision of having one BBC microcomputer
in each Junior and Infant school grow to become a powerful
integrated ICT network. I have worked for Geoff Parkin, for
most of my time with HMTC, providing Hampshire Schools with
technical support and maintenance. After reorganisation, the
last three years of my employment were within EdICT, as a
member of the installations team and I was one of two technicians
specifically employed to implement into schools premises,
the SWAN (Schools Wide Area Network) system.
I look forward to working again with Geoff
and the rest of the Gatehouse team, assisting
with the technical side of ICT
networked solutions in Hampshire Schools.
My recreational interests are model engineering
and steam railways. My wife Sue and I hope to have time to
follow up the family history research which I have just begun.

I
have been a primary school teacher in Southampton schools
for 32 years. I took early retirement in 2004 and have continued
to work part time in education supporting Year 6 children
in SATs Booster groups.
My role in Gatehouse is sourcing course
venues and producing course information mailing to schools.
I have a variety of interests, these
being music, gardening, keep fit, reading, cooking and tortoises.
I do enjoy walking in Cornwall where my husband and I spend
a great deal of our spare time.
