IMAGE: ICT Mark logoThe Self Review Framework for Primary Schools

Gatehouse has been involved in the Self Review framework leading to the ICT Mark award in almost 150 schools nationally, and this will continue to develop during the next academic year. During the past two years, we have completed ICT Mark assessments in 73 schools, across all phases, are supporting a further 45 schools, and have carried out 18 Moderation visits nationally with more planned. No other individual organisation can match this record, one of which we are justifiably proud.

The Self Review Framework (SRF) and associated ICT Mark award were launched at the BETT Show in January 2006, replacing the existing Naacemark award scheme.

The SRF is based on a maturity model enabling schools to assess and benchmark their use of ICT across the school and includes practical steps that schools can take to improve their use and deployment of ICT. Schools will find that it complements the way in which they already work when completing Ofsted’s Self Evaluation Form.

The SRF comprises eight elements that cover the development of ICT across the school: the eight elements are:-

1. Leadership and Management
2. Curriculum
3. Learning and Teaching
4. Assessment
5. Professional Development
6. Extending Opportunities for Learning
7. Resources
8. Impact on Pupil Outcomes

The SRF is an online tool accessed through the Becta web site (www.becta.org.uk). Within each of the elements there are 5 levels of attainment. The (ICT Mark logo) denotes the ICT Mark threshold for each of the individual aspects, typically at level 2 or 3.

Gatehouse Partnership offers trained, experienced ICT Mark Assessors and Moderators who are able to support schools at all levels of ICT development, to enable them to move forward in a coherent, planned way, relevant to their needs. Our priority is to match these needs to the SRF, working with schools toward the levels required for the achievement of the ICT Mark if that is what they wish. We will also work with schools using the Framework who do not wish to apply for the ICT Mark award. Anthony and Gale have been involved in training new ICT Mark assessors in England and Wales as well as carrying out ICT Mark visits to several ICT Excellence schools in England.

A list of schools that Gatehouse has been supporting can be located using the ICT Mark Schools link.

Further details of the SRF and ICT Mark award can be found on the Becta web site. Alternatively, you can contact any of the Gatehouse Directors and we will be happy to talk you through the process. If your school has not yet considered the benefits of matching its ICT process against the Self-Review Framework, then please get in touch: we can guarantee it will be worthwhile.
