The Self Review Framework for Schools

Gatehouse has been involved in the Self Review Framework (SRF) leading to the ICT Mark award in over 250 schools nationally, and this will develop greatly during the coming academic year.  During the past four years, we have completed ICT Mark assessments in 183 schools across all phases, including our first overseas assessment in Hong Kong.  Additionally we have completed 47 Moderation visits and are supporting a further 15 schools towards accreditation.  No other individual organisation can match this record, one of which we continue to be justifiably proud.

The Self Review Framework (SRF) and associated ICT Mark award were launched at the BETT Show in January 2006, replacing the existing Naacemark award scheme.  The revised SRF was published in 2010 and is the framework we use today.

The SRF is based on a maturity model enabling schools to assess and benchmark their use of ICT across the school and includes practical steps that schools can take to improve their use and deployment of ICT. Schools will find that it complements the way in which they already work when completing Ofsted’s Self Evaluation Form.

The revised SRF now comprises six elements that cover the development of ICT across the school:

  1. Leadership and Management
  2. Planning
  3. Learning
  4. Assessment of ICT capability
  5. Professional Development
  6. Resources

The SRF is an online tool currently accessed through the DFE web site (https://selfreview.becta.org.uk/). Within each of the elements there are 5 levels of attainment. The ICT Mark logo, which sits at level 2, denotes the ICT Mark threshold for each of the individual aspects.

Gatehouse Partnership offers trained, experienced ICT Mark Assessors and Moderators who are able to support schools at all levels of ICT development, to enable them to move forward in a coherent, planned way, relevant to their needs. Our priority is to match these needs to the SRF, working with schools toward the levels required for the achievement of the ICT Mark if that is what they wish. We will also work with schools using the Framework who do not wish to apply for the ICT Mark award. During the current academic year, Anthony and Gale, as Lead Assessors, have been involved in moderating new ICT Mark assessors in England and Wales as well as running ICT Mark awareness sessions across the country.

A list of schools that Gatehouse has been supporting can be located using the ICT Mark Schools link.

Further details of the SRF and ICT Mark award can be found on the Naace web site (www.naace.co.uk).  Alternatively, you can contact any of the Gatehouse Directors and we will be happy to talk you through the process.  If your school has not yet considered the benefits of matching its progress against the SRF, please get in touch: we can guarantee it will be a worthwhile process.
